- Three different flavors from one simple base
- No cooking required
- Easy grab-and-go breakfasts
- Simple to adjust for sweetness and consistency
Ingredients
Makes 3 jars—one jar of each flavor
High-Protein Base for All 3 Jars
- 1½ cups old-fashioned rolled oats
- 1½ cups plain nonfat or low-fat Greek yogurt
- 1½ cups milk of choice
- 1 tablespoon chia seeds
- Pinch of salt
- Optional maple syrup, honey or zero-calorie sweetener, to taste
Chocolate Peanut Butter Jar
- ½ scoop chocolate protein powder
- 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1½ tablespoons natural peanut butter
- ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract
- Optional chopped peanuts or dark chocolate shavings
Strawberries & Cream Jar
- ½ scoop vanilla protein powder
- ¾ cup chopped strawberries, divided
- ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract
- Optional 1 tablespoon light cream cheese for extra cheesecake-style richness
Banana Cinnamon Jar
- ½ scoop vanilla protein powder
- 1 small ripe banana, divided
- ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract
- Optional pinch of nutmeg
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Divide the Base
Place ½ cup rolled oats, ½ cup Greek yogurt, ½ cup milk, one teaspoon chia seeds and a small pinch of salt in each of three jars or airtight containers.
2. Make Chocolate Peanut Butter
Add the chocolate protein powder, cocoa powder, one tablespoon peanut butter and vanilla to the first jar. Stir until smooth. Add the remaining peanut butter as a swirl and reserve optional toppings until serving.
3. Make Strawberries & Cream
Add the vanilla protein powder, vanilla, optional cream cheese and half of the strawberries to the second jar. Stir thoroughly, then layer the remaining strawberries over the top.
4. Make Banana Cinnamon
Mash half of the banana in the third jar. Add the vanilla protein powder, cinnamon, vanilla and optional nutmeg. Stir thoroughly and reserve the remaining banana for serving to reduce browning.
5. Adjust the Consistency
Stir each jar well, scraping the bottom and sides. Add one or two tablespoons of milk if a mixture appears too thick. Remember that the oats and chia seeds will absorb more liquid overnight.
6. Cover and Refrigerate
Cover the jars and refrigerate for at least 6 hours or overnight. Stir before eating, add a splash of milk if needed and finish with the reserved toppings.

Meal-Prep and Storage Tips
- Refrigerator: Store tightly covered at 40°F or below for up to 4 days.
- Best texture: Use old-fashioned rolled oats. Quick oats become softer, while steel-cut oats remain much firmer.
- Fruit: Fresh strawberries and banana are best within the first 2–3 days.
- Banana browning: Keep the reserved banana slices separate and add them immediately before eating.
- Consistency: Stir in milk one tablespoon at a time if the oats become too thick.
- Freezing: Freezing is not recommended because the yogurt and fresh-fruit texture may change after thawing.
Easy Swaps and Variations
- Use lactose-free milk and yogurt if needed.
- Use a plant-based protein powder, nondairy yogurt and soy milk for a dairy-free option.
- Replace peanut butter with almond, cashew or sunflower-seed butter.
- Swap strawberries for blueberries, raspberries or mixed berries.
- Add instant espresso powder to the chocolate jar for a mocha flavor.
- Add walnuts or pecans to the banana jar for crunch.
- Reduce the protein powder slightly if your preferred brand thickens the oats too much.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do overnight oats need to be cooked?
No. Refrigeration softens rolled oats as they absorb liquid. They can be eaten cold or warmed after soaking.
Can I warm overnight oats?
Yes. Transfer the oats to a microwave-safe bowl or leave room in a microwave-safe jar. Heat in short intervals, stir carefully and add milk as needed. Add fresh toppings afterward.
Why are my oats too thick?
Chia seeds, oats and some protein powders absorb substantial liquid. Stir in additional milk one tablespoon at a time until the texture is right.
Can I prepare more than three jars?
Yes. Double every ingredient to make six jars—two of each flavor—while keeping the same per-jar measurements.

CIWO Meal-Prep Notes
Protein Overnight Oats — 3 Ways works best when the serving size is planned around your own calorie, protein and training needs. Nutrition numbers in recipes are estimates because brands, ingredient weights, sauces and substitutions can change the final totals.
Storage, reheating and food safety
Cool cooked food appropriately, portion it into clean covered containers and refrigerate promptly. As a practical rule, many cooked leftovers are best used within about three to four refrigerated days; freeze later-week portions when appropriate. Reheat hot components thoroughly, and keep fresh toppings or cold sauces separate when that improves texture.
Adjust the meal for your goal
For a higher-energy training meal, increase an appropriate carbohydrate portion or add a nutrient-dense side. For a lighter meal, emphasize vegetables and moderate calorie-dense sauces, oils and cheese. For more protein, adjust the main lean-protein portion or pair the meal with a protein-rich side.
Make the nutrition estimate more accurate
Weigh or measure the ingredients you actually use and calculate the batch from their labels, then divide by the number of portions. This is more reliable than assuming every version of the recipe has identical calories or macros.
