High-Protein Philly Cheesesteak Bowls

Get the flavor of a classic Philly cheesesteak in an easy meal-prep bowl. These High-Protein Philly Cheesesteak Bowls combine lean steak, sautéed peppers and onions, rice or potatoes, and reduced-fat provolone for approximately 40–45 grams of protein per serving.

Ingredients – Makes 4 Bowls

  • 1 1/2 pounds lean sirloin steak, thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 green bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 red bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 medium yellow onion, sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 4 slices reduced-fat provolone cheese or about 4 ounces shredded provolone
  • 3 cups cooked jasmine or brown rice, or roasted potatoes
  • Optional: mushrooms, parsley or red pepper flakes

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Cook the steak: Heat half the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Season the steak with salt and pepper. Cook in batches for about 2–4 minutes until browned, then remove from the skillet.
  2. Sauté the vegetables: Add the remaining oil, peppers and onion. Cook for 5–7 minutes until tender-crisp. Add garlic and cook for about 30 seconds.
  3. Combine: Return the steak to the skillet. Add Worcestershire sauce and toss everything together until hot.
  4. Add the cheese: Reduce the heat and top the steak and vegetables with provolone. Cover briefly until the cheese melts.
  5. Build the bowls: Divide rice or roasted potatoes among four meal-prep containers. Top evenly with the cheesy steak, peppers and onions.

Estimated Nutrition Per Serving

Approximately 480–550 calories, 40–45g protein, 40–50g carbohydrates and 14–18g fat per serving, depending on the steak, cheese, base and portion sizes used. Nutrition values are estimates.

Meal Prep & Storage

Allow the ingredients to cool before sealing the containers. Refrigerate for up to 4 days. Reheat until hot throughout. If using rice, a small splash of water before reheating can help restore moisture.

Easy Variations

  • Use roasted potatoes instead of rice.
  • Use cauliflower rice for a lower-carbohydrate option.
  • Add mushrooms for more classic cheesesteak flavor.
  • Swap provolone for reduced-fat mozzarella or pepper jack.
  • Use lean ground beef or chicken for a budget-friendly variation.
