High-Protein Lasagna Meal Prep

This High-Protein Lasagna Meal Prep gives you all the comfort-food flavor of classic lasagna with a protein-focused twist. Lean ground turkey or beef, high-protein pasta, cottage cheese, mozzarella and marinara combine for approximately 45–50 grams of protein per serving.

Ingredients – Makes 6 Servings

Meat Sauce

  • 1 pound 93% lean ground turkey or lean ground beef
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 jar (24 ounces) lower-sugar marinara sauce
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • Optional red pepper flakes

Cheese Layer

  • 2 cups low-fat cottage cheese
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Assembly

  • 9 lasagna noodles, regular or high-protein
  • 2 cups part-skim shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Fresh parsley or basil for garnish, optional

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Cook the meat sauce: Brown the turkey or beef in a large skillet over medium heat. Add onion and cook until softened. Stir in garlic for 30–60 seconds, then add marinara, tomato paste, Italian seasoning, salt, pepper and optional red pepper flakes. Simmer for 10–15 minutes.
  2. Prepare the cheese layer: Stir cottage cheese, egg, Parmesan, Italian seasoning, salt and pepper together until well combined.
  3. Prepare the noodles: Cook lasagna noodles according to package directions until just al dente, then drain.
  4. Assemble: Spread a thin layer of meat sauce in a 9×13-inch baking dish. Add 3 noodles, half of the cottage cheese mixture, part of the mozzarella and part of the meat sauce. Repeat, then finish with remaining noodles, sauce and mozzarella.
  5. Bake: Cover with foil and bake at 375°F for about 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake another 10–15 minutes until hot, bubbly and lightly browned.
  6. Cool and portion: Let the lasagna rest for 10–15 minutes before slicing into 6 equal portions.

Estimated Nutrition Per Serving

Approximately 480–550 calories, 45–50g protein, 40–50g carbohydrates and 14–18g fat per serving, depending on the pasta, meat, cheese and sauce brands used. Nutrition values are estimates.

Meal Prep & Storage

Allow the lasagna to cool before portioning into airtight meal-prep containers. Refrigerate for up to 4–5 days. For longer storage, freeze individual portions for up to 3 months. Reheat until steaming hot throughout.

Easy Variations

  • Use high-protein or whole-wheat lasagna noodles.
  • Swap ground turkey for extra-lean beef or chicken.
  • Add spinach, mushrooms or zucchini for extra vegetables.
  • Use reduced-fat mozzarella to lower overall fat.
  • For a lower-carb option, replace some noodles with thinly sliced zucchini.

CIWO Meal-Prep Notes

High-Protein Lasagna Meal Prep works best when the serving size is planned around your own calorie, protein and training needs. Nutrition numbers in recipes are estimates because brands, ingredient weights, sauces and substitutions can change the final totals.

Storage, reheating and food safety

Cool cooked food appropriately, portion it into clean covered containers and refrigerate promptly. As a practical rule, many cooked leftovers are best used within about three to four refrigerated days; freeze later-week portions when appropriate. Reheat hot components thoroughly, and keep fresh toppings or cold sauces separate when that improves texture.

Adjust the meal for your goal

For a higher-energy training meal, increase an appropriate carbohydrate portion or add a nutrient-dense side. For a lighter meal, emphasize vegetables and moderate calorie-dense sauces, oils and cheese. For more protein, adjust the main lean-protein portion or pair the meal with a protein-rich side.

Make the nutrition estimate more accurate

Weigh or measure the ingredients you actually use and calculate the batch from their labels, then divide by the number of portions. This is more reliable than assuming every version of the recipe has identical calories or macros.

Planning This Meal Across the Week

Meal prep is most useful when it reduces decisions without forcing you to eat identical portions regardless of the day. A harder training day may call for a larger carbohydrate portion, while a less active day may fit a smaller portion. Keep the protein serving consistent with your overall daily target and adjust the rest of the plate around appetite, activity and goals.

For best results, label refrigerated or frozen portions with the preparation date. If texture matters, keep crunchy toppings, fresh vegetables and cold sauces separate until serving. When changing ingredients, recalculate nutrition from the products you actually use rather than relying on the original estimate.
